VOCA Fix Bill passed and signed!
The VOCA Fix to Sustain the Crime Victims Fund Act of 2021 (the "VOCA Fix Act") passed the Senate unanimously on July 20, 100-0. IowaCASA, our victim service programs, and our supporters have been advocating nonstop for the bill since it passed the House of Representatives this March.
This critical legislation will prevent devastating cuts to federal funding for victim service programs through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA). The VOCA Fix Act ensures that federal financial penalties from deferred prosecution and non-prosecution agreements are treated the same way as penalties resulting from criminal convictions—that they go to serve and compensate crime victims. The bill was signed into law on July 22, 2021.
Thank you to Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst for their support in co-sponsoring the bill and helping to get it over the finish line!
